Serralves em Luz: When the Night Comes to Life

This year, Serralves em Luz returns for its fourth edition, once again promising to surprise even those who think they already know this extraordinary event.

As the sun sets, nature slows down. Colours soften, sounds change, and Serralves Park takes on a completely new identity. Darkness is no longer simply the absence of light, it becomes the stage for a truly immersive experience.

Every year, thousands of visitors follow this illuminated trail, where nature is no longer just the backdrop but becomes the main character. Surrounded by centuries-old trees, shimmering reflections on the water and large-scale artistic installations, every step reveals a new perspective of the park.

It is an invitation to slow down, look more closely and discover how light can completely transform a place you thought you already knew.

Looking for things to do in Porto? Serralves em Luz is one of the answers

The fourth edition of Serralves em Luz takes visitors on a two-kilometre night-time journey through one of Porto’s most iconic green spaces. Along the way, the park becomes an open-air gallery where art, technology, music and nature come together to create a truly unique immersive experience.

Directed by Nuno Maya, in collaboration with the Serralves Park team and produced by OCUBO, this edition features a brand-new immersive production created exclusively for the event and presented for the very first time in Portugal.

If you’re looking for something different to do during your stay in Porto, this is an experience well worth adding to your itinerary.

Light vs Darkness

Light vs Darkness is the theme of this fourth edition, inviting visitors of all ages to experience Serralves Park in an entirely new way.

Whether you’re travelling as a couple, with family, with friends or simply exploring Porto on your own, Serralves em Luz offers a unique opportunity to experience the park after dark.

Simply follow the trail and allow yourself to be immersed in a series of installations exploring the relationship between sound and silence, demonstrating how sound relates to silence in the same way that light relates to darkness.

The original musical compositions have been created by seven renowned Portuguese artists: Francisco Rebelo, Gonçalo Garcia dos Santos, Inóspita, Maria João, Noiserv, Pedro Antunes and Rodrigo Leão.

Porto in a New Light

This summer, Serralves Park is transformed into one of Portugal’s leading immersive light art events.

From the darkness, a tree reveals its hidden essence. An architectural rainbow comes to life through human presence. Hidden geometries react to UV light, blending with nature in carefully designed rhythms. Projected labyrinths, Duotones, Octashadows, appearances and light installations reflected across water, trees and plants create an original dialogue between nature and technology.

Throughout the route, each installation has its own artistic language. Some encourage quiet contemplation, while others invite interaction and surprise.

Here, light does far more than illuminate. It draws shapes, creates optical illusions and reveals hidden details within the landscape. The result is a night-time walk where no two moments feel the same, allowing every visitor to experience the park in their own unique way.
